Interestingly enough, fall is the best time to get your lawn in shape and ready for the winter season. Now is the season to develop a lusher, greener, healthier lawn. This is the time for aerating, the critical time for fertilizing, and mowing shorter than usual. Plus, even though the grass is entering its big sleep for winter; you’ll need to stay on top of the watering. All of this is to prepare your grass for its wake-up call in the spring. You’ll want it waking up with a belly-full of food, hydrated and free from disease. Here’s how to give your lawn everything it needs this fall.
The goal is to have a thick lawn with no bare spots. Over-seeding the entire lawn in September or early October will help you get these results. At this time, daily air temperatures are ideal for germination (between 15 and 25 Degrees Celsius). The heat waves are over and the cooler nights provide dew on the lawn which helps keep the seed moist. More consistent rainfall that comes with this season will also help your grass establish a deep root system; another important goal. For best results, aerate (especially if clay soil), apply up to ½” depth of compost, then spread with a mix of grass seed,
While tending to your lawn take a bit of time to since you’re outside anyways. Most times, cracks in the foundation may be caused simply by settling. Many times, these cracks don’t indicate any larger problem, and fixing them is important to keep any moisture from trickeling into your basement and insects from visiting your basement. As a plus, getting them repaired also improves the look of the wall, cosmetically. This isn’t to say that a cracked foundation is something that should be ignored. Especially in a relatively new structure, any noticeable cracks in your foundation should be taken seriously and examined by a professional as soon as possible. Like many things, an unstable foundation isn’t going to get better over time. Hiring someone to take a look at a problem area generally won’t cost you that much, and in the long run, it could end up saving you a bundle!
